T.I.M.E. to follow Jesus.

When God calls you to speak His truth in a hostile situation He doesn’t abandon you to come up with what to say. In fact Jesus warned the disciples that a day would come when they would have to stand “… before synagogues, rulers and authorities,” and He told those disciples long before it happened, “do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” (Luke 12:11-12).

1. Have you ever had to defend yourself against false accusations? What were the circumstances? How did you hold up? Was the issue resolved or did your defense only add to the problem?
2. To whom and why was Stephen called to give a defense? (Acts 7:1) (Acts 6:13-14) Just like: (Mat 26:61-62;John 18:19-21; John 18:33-35)
3. Why did Stephen begin with Abraham? (Acts 7:2) Where was Abraham when God called him? (Gen. 11:31; 12:1-5; Neh 9:7) Why is that significant to Stephen? (Acts 6:2) Where was Stephen from?
4. Why did God call Abraham? To what purpose and with what promises? (Acts 7:3-7) (Gen 12:2,3,7; Gen 13:15; Gen 15:13-14; Heb 11:9-16)
5. What does the covenant of circumcision have to do with Stephen’s predicament?(Acts 7:8) (Gen 17:9-14; Rom 4:7-11; Gal 2:15-17)
6. Was Stephen just stalling for time as he went on from Abraham to Joseph? (Acts 7:9-13) What does Joseph’s life show us from Stephen’s perspective?
7. Who were the patriarchs? What was their issue? (Acts 7:9) (Gen 37:4-11) Like Mat 27:18? Like Stephen’s current situation?
8. Where were Abraham and the Patriarchs buried? (Acts 7:16) or (Gen 23:3-20; 49:29-33; 50:13; Josh 24:32)?

9. What emotion is seen by Stephen’s historical summary. (Acts 7:17-36)
10. How did God prepare the vastly increased nation for return to the promise land? (Acts 7:19,22,25 (*leadership track) 27, 29, 30)
11. How does God communicate with Moses? (Acts 7:32-34) And in the Apostles time? (Mat 17:5-6; Luke 5:8; Rev. 1:17)
Does He still communicate like this today?
12. According to Stephen how did Israel come to know it is God who appointed Moses? (Acts 7:36) (Deut 4:33-37; Deut 6:21-22; Neh 9:10; Psalm 78:42-51;Ex 14:21-29; Neh 9:12-15; Acts 6:8)
13. How does the tone of Stephen’s message change in (Acts 7:35,37). (Acts 2:36; 3:22)

21. When you think of worst case scenarios is dying on the top of the list?
22. Did Stephen succumb to a worst case scenario or a best case scenario (Acts 7:56-57)?
23. Where the stoners lawfully upholding Mose’s or even Rome’s commands? “This hardly correlates, of course, with the stipulation in Mishnah Sanhedrin 4:1 that “in capital cases a verdict of acquittal may be reached on the same day [as the trial], but a verdict of conviction not until the following day.” Nor is it in accord with the Roman regulation that death sentences in the provinces could not be carried out unless confirmed by the Roman governor” – The Expositor’s Bible Commentary – Volume 9: John and Acts.
